Frequently Asked Questions

I want to qualify as a Therapist, what do courses do I have to attend?

The Beginners, Anatomy & Physiology and the Practitioners Course

What qualification will I get?

You will gain the LCM Diploma, which will enable you to gain insurance & register with various associations. The LCM Diploma is very well recognised within the field of Complementary medicine.

Do I have to attend the Beginners course? Why can’t I go straight on to the Practitioners Course?

The Beginners course is compulsory because it provides the foundation of the massage sequence which is then expanded upon in the Practitioners course.

I just want to learn for family & friends?

The Beginners course will teach you a full body massage routine and also provides the foundation of the techniques required to be able to progress to the Practitioners course.

How much does it cost?

The complete Beginners Course is £405.00. This can be completed over 3 weekends, 1 weekend a month or 12 weeks, 1 evening or morning a week.

I’m not sure if I want to commit to a full course, are there any other options?

We would advise that you attend an Intro Weekend.

What is an Intro Weekend and how much does it cost?

For the complete beginner, this is an introduction to basic massage techniques and their contraindications. The weekend costs £135.00. This is a good way to see if massage is for you before committing yourself to the complete course.

Do I have to bring a friend?

No, you practice on each other in class.

Will I have to get undressed?

On the first morning of the weekend course or evening of the beginners course you will learn a seated massage routine (in a chair with clothes on) we call this the ‘ice-breaker’ as you can imagine we have 10 students who have never meet each other before and are all nervous and suddenly have to start massaging each other!! From there, yes you will have to get undressed but we teach you towel etiquette.

I have completed the Intro Weekend, what’s next?

To complete the Beginners course you can then enrol on the 2 Follow Up weekends, the cost is £270.00

I completed the Intro Weekend, is it possible to join the Evening course instead of the follow-up weekends?

Yes you can, although for the first 4 weeks you will repeat the techniques that you learnt in the Intro weekend. The cost is £270.00.

Can I miss the first 4 weeks?

No

Is there any home study?

Over the duration of the course you are required to complete 20 homework’s, meaning that you have to practice the techniques you have learnt and writing them up.

Is there an exam at the end?

There is an informal practical assessment at the end, completing a full body massage routine.

Will I get a certificate?

At the end of the beginners, after successfully completing your assessment and submitting your homework’s you will receive a certificate of completion.

How many students are there in a class?

A minimum of 6, maximum of 10.

I would like to complete the training to qualify as a Massage Practitioner, what’s next?

The next stage is the Anatomy & Physiology Course and then the Practitioners Massage Course.

How much home study is required for Anatomy & Physiology?

Approximately 4 to 6 hours per week.

What happens if I fail the exams?

It is possible to re-sit the exam at a later date (£30).

I have studied Anatomy & Physiology before or I am a nurse/doctor/Osteopath etc.. Do I have to attend this course?

No but you will still be required to sit our exams, two at £30 each

I would like to qualify as quickly as possible?

It is possible to complete the Anatomy & Physiology and the Practitioners course at the same time. It depends on how much time you have available for home study.

What is the Clinical Day mentioned in the Practitioners course?

This day is designed to give you the opportunity to carry out a massage treatments on members of the public. You have to set up the therapy room, greet your client, complete a full case history and give a treatment. All of which is assessed.

What is the community based project?

The project involves volunteering to offer massage as a support to different sectors of the community. We encourage that students choose an area where massage is not readily available or affordable. The project requires a minimum of 30 hours, to be completed throughout the duration of the Practitioners course and a written dissertation is to be submitted 2 weeks after your practical assessment.

Who recognises the LCM Diploma? Will I be able to get insurance?

Our Diploma is recognised by the various associations, FHT, CHTA, BCMA, APNT which ever you choose to register with. Please note you do not have to register with any associations! Insurance is available with specialist brokers.

Will I be able to travel & work abroad?

You can travel and work anywhere with the exception of Sweden as they require more medical knowledge and America as the licensing rules vary from state to state. This doesn’t mean it’s not possible just maybe a little difficult.
